Sribepost for February 5,2009

Today in math we did a test about balancing shapes,fractions, and algebra.

This is how our test look like:
(this is only the questions)

The balancing shapes has to equal 129. The clue was each of the arms is equal in weight and that :

This are the shapes that we were to do in our test:

The next part is about fractions:

1. order from least to greatest
1/3, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/6

2. order from greatest to least
2/5, 4/5, 1/5, 3/5, 5/5

3. place in descending order ( that means greatest to least)
3/2, 1 1/4, 2/3, 2 1/1o

The last part of the test is the algebra questions:
We had to solve it then verify it and we have to show all our work!

1. a + 3 = 9
2. B - 4 = 2
3. C divide 3 = 7
4. d9 = 18
Then after we were done our test and we still had time we did number of the day!!

the number was 7613.248...... & remember it's always homework if you don't finish it!!

then we corrected our test!!!

I choose April to do the next scribe post!!...

Today in math we did TLE (The Learning Equation) . What we did in tle was Linear equations part 1. All we had to do was to solve equations like these .

Example:
x+5= 6
n+2= 3
y-4= 2
q-8= -6

In tle we had some questions that asked us :

Example:

Stevie's Weight was minus 14lbs = 70 lbs . What is Stevie's weight?

Then you had to solve it using algebra. Then you had to verify if you got your solution correct or not.
When we were done tle Mr isfled asked us to go on this website coolkids.com .

For the next scribepost I choose Kathleen .. Good luck! (:

Today in math we checked our home work from yesterday on algebra.

1. A+7=10 Steps: A+7-7 = 10-7 / A = 3 Verify: A + 7 = 10 / 3 + 7 = 10 / 10 = 10

2. 7 + A = 10 Steps: 7+A-7=10-7/A=3: 7+A=10/7+3=10/10=10

3. B-4=3 Steps: B-4+4=3+4/B=7

4. 4-B=3 Steps:4-b-4=3-4/b=1/b=1 x -1=1

5.4c=12 Steps:4 divided by 4=12 divided by4 c=3

6.C4=12 Steps:c4 divided by 4=12 divided by 4 c=3

7.
D over 2=7 Steps: 2 over D (2)=7(2)D=14

8. 2 over D=7 steps: 2 over D=7x7/2 over 7 = 7d over 7/2 over 7 equals d

Then we worked on our Provencial folders.Mr.Isfield gave us assignments.One question is,show me one half in many ways: 50%,0.5,1 over 2, 2 over 4, 3 over 6, 4 over 8.

Today at Math, we did number of the day. Today's number is 2969.402
After that Mr. Isfeld checked our homework from yesterday.

1. 6 - 3x = -6

To remove 6 and leave 3x, subtract 6 from both sides of the operation
6 - 6 - 3x = -6 - 6
-3x = -12
To remove -3 and just leave x, divide both sides by -3
-3x/-3 = -12/-3
x = 4

To verify:
6 - 3x = -6
6 - 3(4) = -6
6 - 12 = -6
-6 = -6

2. 5x/4 + 3 = -7

To remove 3, subtract 3 from both sides of the operation
5x/4 + 3 - 3 = -7 - 3
5x/4 = -10
To remove 4, multiply both sides by 4
5x/4 (4) = -10 (4)
5x = -40
5x/5 = -40/5
x = -8

To verify:
5x/4 + 3 = -7
5 (-8)/4 + 3 = -7
-40/4 + 3 = -7
-10 + 3 = -7
-7 = -7

3. x/5 = -3/4

To remove 5, multiply both sides by 5
x/5 (5) = -3/4 (5)
x = -3.75

To verify:
x/5 = -3/4
-3.75/5 = -0.75
-0.75 = -0.75

Today we did Ordering Fraction Strategy.

1. Using Landmarks

Landmarks are thing everybody should know.

eg. - let's meet at Polopark.

- I live near the forks.

Fraction land marks

1/10, 1/5, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 1/4, 1/1

2. Equivalent Fraction

eg. 11/15 = 22/30 (x2 on numerator and denominator)

7/10 = 21/30 (x3 on numerator and denominator)

Get common denominator or numerator.

3. Convert to decimal

3/5 or 13/20 What is bigger?

3/5 = 0.6/1 ( divided by 5 the numerator and denominator)

13/20 = 0.65/1 ( divided by 20 the numerator and denominator)

Their will be a test tomorrow about a balancing shape

I choose Guiseppe to do the next scribe post.

Today in math class we went to the computer lab and worked on our TLE. Today's lesson in TLE was ORDERING NUMBERS.

Today's objecive was: In this lesson you will learn to compare and order fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals.

-To do number 1 you have to write the method for ordering/comparing fractions with the same denominator. Example: 4/7 > 3/7
-To do number 2 you need to write the methods for ordering/comparing fractions with different numerators and denominators. Example: Which is greater, 3/5 or 4/9?

You need to change the denominator to 45 because it is the LCD of 5 and 9. Then just compare the numerator. There for the answer to this question is 4/9.

-Next you are going to do a vocabulary list which you can find on the glossary.

-In question number 1 in the other page, you need to use the <> symbol to complete the statement.

-Question number 2 is like number three but you need to change the denominator and replace it with the LCD. Which is 63 in this question. Then all you have to do is compare the numerator and write the correct symbol.

-The last question is just to write the following numbers from greatest to least.

Please comment the mistakes that I did. I choose Allen for the next scribe.

Today in math we did our number of the day. The number is 3269.148 incase you weren't here. Remember, its for homework!

We also did this problem.

And then we did our portfolios. We had to order fractions from least to greatest and greatest to least.

I choose Patricia for the next scribepost.
