Scribepost for March 23, 2009

The first thing we did today was number of the day, as usual.
The number was 8756.934, in case you weren't there today, or you
didn't write it down.

After number of the day, we did notes.

Bisect - Bi means "two".
Sect means "cut".
So bisect means to cut in two.
Perpendicular Bisector - A line that divides a line segment in half and is at right angles to it.
eg.

How can you create or draw a perpendicular bisector?
1. Free hand O.K. but not perfect.
2. Protractor gets us 90° angle.
Ruler cuts line in half.

3. Use a compass and create arcs.

a) Open compass to greater than half the distance of line.
b) Place compass of pt. (point) A draw an arc.
c) Place compass on pt. B draw an arc.
d) Use a ruler to connect the intersections of the arcs that line is a perpendicular bisector.

Angles -
angle - the figure formed by two lines with a common end point called a vertex.

acute angle - less than 90°

obtuse angle - more than 90°
less than 180°

angle bisector - the line that divides an angle into two equal parts.

How do we make an angle bisector?
1. Free hand not perfect not accurate enough.
2. Protractor.

3. Compass.

a) Arc from vertex,
b) Arc from pt. S (intersection of line and arc)
c) Arc from pt. T (intersection of line and arc)
d) Line from arc intersection to vertex.

After we did those notes, we worked on some Math Links.
Pg. 116 - 121.

Thank you for reading my scribe, and please comment after, if I made any mistakes, or errors.
I choose JORDAN for the next scribe.

ScribePost for March 17, 2009

Today in math we did number of the day which was 1936.295. Number of the day is always homework! We had homework and notes:

Area= Area is the number of square units in a two dimensional region.

eg: 4 cm squared
4- amount cm- units

Area of rectangle or square

Length x width = area

a=L x W
a=6 x 2
a= 12 m squared

eg:

Parallelogram= a four sided figure with opposite sides parallel and equal in legth.

I means sides are equal in length
II
^ means lines are parallel

base= a side of a two dimensional closed figure
=common symbol is b.

height= the perpendicular distance from the base to the opposite side.
=common symbol is h.
eg:

Perpendicular= a line that meets another line at a right or 90 degree angle.

a= L x W a= b x h
a= 6 x 2 a= 6 x 3
a= 12 m squared a= 12 m squared

EEach height is the exact same size.

Area of Parallelogram
a= b x h

h= 3 cm a= b xh
b= 9 cm a= 9 x 3
a= 27 cm squared

Find the area of the following figures.
A:

scribepost for March14,2009

The number for number of the day was 2468.135

AFTER NUMBER OF THE DAY, WE WROTE DOWN SOME MORE PROBABILITY NOTES:

RANDOM: an event in which every outcome has an equal chance of occuring.
EXPERIMENTAL PROBABILITY: the probability of an event occuring baced on experimental results.
THEORETICAL PROBABILITY: the expected probability of an event occuring.

EG.
Flipping a coin.

THEORETICAL PROBABILITY:

5 HEADS 5 TAILS

EXPERIMENTAL PROBABILITY: [ we flipped a coin 10 times ]
HEADS: 4 TAILS: 6

*The larger or more trials in an experiment, the closer experimental probability gets to theoretical probability.

AFTER WE WROTE DOWN THOSE NOTES, WE WENT INTO PG. 180 (1-11) IN MATH LINKS.

I choose Joshua for the next scribepost.

ScribePost, March 9/09

Today we did our Number of the day which is 7362.415 and It's HOMEWORK!!!

Then we did....

MORE PROBABILITY

P(rolling a prime number) with a regular die

P(rolling prime) = favourable
_________
possible

= 3
____ =__1_ 1:2 or 25%
6 2

Finding the probability of rolling two sixes in a row with a regular die.

INDEPENDENT- the outcome of one event has no effect on the outcome of another event.

SAMPLE SPACES- all possible outcome of an experiments.

TREE DIAGRAM: A diagram used to organize outcome contains a branch possible outcomes of an event.

- PROBABILITY of landing a coin on heads and rolling an odd number.

coin flip

A. Trendy , Shana, and Tracie are on Team A. Jordan Micheal, terrance, Sean and Sani are on Team B.

This one we have to solve this problem by using a diagram to show all the possible outcomes if the coach assigns each on Team B defend against a player on Team A

PLEASE COMMENT ME .... if there is any mistakes just Comment. ****

scribepost for march 5

today in math we did number of the day. The number was 9965.267 you and if did not finish it it was homework as always.

after that we did our test on probability since it was Thursday.
if you finished the test before it was time you had to do this:

we did not get to go over it.

after we did the test we went over it and then we went over the homework from yesterday.

then Mr. Isfeld gave us a question to do:

what is the probability of landing a coin on heads and rolling a 3 with a normal die
to find the answer you need a:
probability tree/diagram
H
/ / / / / / /
1 2 3 4 5 6
T
/ / / / / /
1 2 3 4 5 6
p(H and 3)= favourable outcomes/possible outcomes
p(H and 3)=1/12 or 1:12 or 8.3%
HW
what is the probability of rolling a 2 on 1 die and drawing the out of a bag containing the letters S N O W
OLD PRACTICE
FIND 72% OF 120
SORRY FOR THE LATE SCRIBE AND FOR NO VIDEO MY COMPUTER WAS ACTING UP
THANKS FOR READING MY SCRIBE OH AND DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE A COMMENT AND I CHOOSE

Today in Class we did number of the day. The number is 7791.692.
Remember it's for homework everyday !

Then we continued on our Probability notes.

Outcome- is the possible result of a probability experiment.

Favourable outcome- is a succesful result in a probability experiment.

eg.

The tiles S, N, O, W are placed in a bag.

1. What is the probability of drawing a letter "W" from the bag?
Another way to write the same question is P(W).

P(W) = Favourable outcomes
Possible Outcomes

= 1/4 (fraction)

= 25% (percent)
= 1:4 (ratio)

2. P(S or O) = favourable

possible

= 2/4 - 1/2

= 50%
= 1:2

3. P(consonant) = favourable

possible

= 3/4
= 75%
= 3:4

4. P(B) = favourable

possible

= 0/4

= 0%

A bag contains 10 marbles, show the probability of the following event as a fraction, percent and ratio.

a. P(red marbles) = 6/10 - 3/5
= 60%
= 3:5

b. P(red, blue or green marbles) = 10/10 - 1/1
=100%
=1:1

c. P(not a red marble) = 4/10 - 2/5
= 40%
= 2:5

The letters M, O, U, N, T, A, I, N are in a bag.
a. P(N) = 2/8 - 1/4
= 25%
= 1:4

b. P(consonant) = 4/8 - 1/2
= 50%
= 1:2

c. P(letter) = 8/8 - 1/1
= 100%
= 1:1

What is the probability of flipping a coin heads and rolling a 6 ?

Dont Forget: Please comment on what i did bad or good.
(P.S. sorry if it was plain, this is just my first time)

I choose Charity for the next scribepost !

Scribe Post for March 2, 2009.

First thing we did in class, was do number of the day. The number today was 9876.123.

*REMEMBER, NUMBER THE DAY IS ALWAYS HOMEWORK.
Probability
- the likelihood or change of an event occurring.
  • Favorable Outcomes -> what we want to happen.
  • Possible Outcomes -> what might happen.
Probability can be expressed as a:
Then, we had to come up with:

one impossible outcome/event.
eg. for a pig being about to fly.

one certain outcome/event.
eg. having math homework.

one not sure of outcome/event.
eg. the weather tomorrow.

Right after, we had to do this little problem. We had to place the letters above the percent, fractions and decimals to see how likely that event will happen.

a) Flipping a coin and
landing on heads.
b) With one normal six sided die you roll on 8.
c) A boy contains 8 red markers. You reach into the bag and pull out 1 red marker.
d) You spin a spinner with 4 equal sections marked chocolate, fruit, yogurt, and ice cream. What is the probability of the pointer stopping at fruit?
e) A bag contains letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H. You pull out a H.
f) A bag has 3 gold marbles and 1 silver marble. You pull out silver marble.
g) The next baby born in Winnipeg is a boy.

Don't forget to: COMMENT! Please explain all the bad and good things about my blog. Please come again. Oh! I also choose
Princess for the next scribe post.

HOMEWORK:

Find the probability of A.

Find the probability of spinning a Q.

Find the probability of spinning a vowel.
