Scribe Post for Jan. 30 2009

Today at Math, we did number of the day. Today's number is 2969.402
After that Mr. Isfeld checked our homework from yesterday.

1. 6 - 3x = -6

To remove 6 and leave 3x, subtract 6 from both sides of the operation
6 - 6 - 3x = -6 - 6
-3x = -12
To remove -3 and just leave x, divide both sides by -3
-3x/-3 = -12/-3
x = 4

To verify:
6 - 3x = -6
6 - 3(4) = -6
6 - 12 = -6
-6 = -6

2. 5x/4 + 3 = -7

To remove 3, subtract 3 from both sides of the operation
5x/4 + 3 - 3 = -7 - 3
5x/4 = -10
To remove 4, multiply both sides by 4
5x/4 (4) = -10 (4)
5x = -40
5x/5 = -40/5
x = -8

To verify:
5x/4 + 3 = -7
5 (-8)/4 + 3 = -7
-40/4 + 3 = -7
-10 + 3 = -7
-7 = -7

3. x/5 = -3/4

To remove 5, multiply both sides by 5
x/5 (5) = -3/4 (5)
x = -3.75

To verify:
x/5 = -3/4
-3.75/5 = -0.75
-0.75 = -0.75

Today we did Ordering Fraction Strategy.

1. Using Landmarks

Landmarks are thing everybody should know.

eg. - let's meet at Polopark.

- I live near the forks.

Fraction land marks

1/10, 1/5, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 1/4, 1/1

2. Equivalent Fraction

eg. 11/15 = 22/30 (x2 on numerator and denominator)

7/10 = 21/30 (x3 on numerator and denominator)

Get common denominator or numerator.

3. Convert to decimal

3/5 or 13/20 What is bigger?

3/5 = 0.6/1 ( divided by 5 the numerator and denominator)

13/20 = 0.65/1 ( divided by 20 the numerator and denominator)

Their will be a test tomorrow about a balancing shape

I choose Guiseppe to do the next scribe post.

Today in math class we went to the computer lab and worked on our TLE. Today's lesson in TLE was ORDERING NUMBERS.

Today's objecive was: In this lesson you will learn to compare and order fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals.

-To do number 1 you have to write the method for ordering/comparing fractions with the same denominator. Example: 4/7 > 3/7
-To do number 2 you need to write the methods for ordering/comparing fractions with different numerators and denominators. Example: Which is greater, 3/5 or 4/9?

You need to change the denominator to 45 because it is the LCD of 5 and 9. Then just compare the numerator. There for the answer to this question is 4/9.

-Next you are going to do a vocabulary list which you can find on the glossary.

-In question number 1 in the other page, you need to use the <> symbol to complete the statement.

-Question number 2 is like number three but you need to change the denominator and replace it with the LCD. Which is 63 in this question. Then all you have to do is compare the numerator and write the correct symbol.

-The last question is just to write the following numbers from greatest to least.

Please comment the mistakes that I did. I choose Allen for the next scribe.

Today in math we had a test on measures of central tendency.

The test was out of 42 with questions about mean, median, mode, range, and outlier.

Mean: The sum of the numbers in the data set divided by the total numbers of numbers in the data set.

eg. 10,14, 20, 9. 10 + 14 + 20 + 9 = 53 ------> 53 / 4= 13.25 ------> 13.25=mean

Median: The number in the middle of the data set.

eg. 8, 11, 14, 17, 23. / The middle in the data set is 14.

Mode: The number that appears most in a data set.

eg. 12, 9, 5, 9, 9, 15. The mode is 9.

Range: The number you get when you get the highest number and the lowest number in the data set then subtract the highest number by the lowest number in the data set.

eg. 5, 10 , 15, 20. --------> 20 - 5 = 15 ----------> The range is 15.

Outlier: The number that is greatly lower or greatly higher than the other numbers in the data set.

eg. 14, 13, 79, 17, 21. The outlier is 79.

After you are done your test you were supposed to do your number of the day.

Today's number was 3179.269 remember number of the day is homework everyday.

If you finished your number of the day you were supposed to do a math problem.

If you did not finish this during class time it is homework.

Today in math we did Number of the Day.

Number of the day is an activity which helps us learn certain math skills, such as dividing and rounding, finding the exponent of a number, expanded notation, expanded form (similar yet different from expanded notation), prime factors and various other important math skills.

We played a math game that requires you to find the decimal and fractional equivalent of other fractions and decimals. We were given cards with an answer to another card and a question.

eg. Someone asked to find the Decimal equivalent of 1/4, so Brendan read his card and said that he had 0.25.

The game also required us to find pictorial representations of proper fractions, mixed fractions, and decimals.

eg. The student teacher had a card and the question asked who had a pictorial representation of 3/4 and I had the answer card.

We also did some textbook work. The work we did involved the measures of central tendency; range and outlier.

Range: The difference you get when you subtract the two end numbers in a data set.

eg. 11, 14, 25, 43, 45 / 45-11= 34

Outlier: The number(s) that are either the smallest or the largest in the data set.

eg. 2, 27, 43, 51, 65, 69/ the outlier is 2

Today in Math today on Friday,16 09 We did Number of the day doing numbers, and fractions, decimals, and other.
We also had to weight these shapes on the left .<-------
They had to weight up to eighty so it was suppose to be half 40 , 40.
After that we also had to find percent of 82.5% and 160 using Ratio tables or dividing or adding or subtracting or even multiplication.

Congrats to All of You! :D

Great job you guys!

It has only been 2 days since you were taught how to use Blogger (better), and you guys are using those notes pretty fast. It's also nice to see that a lot of people are leaving comments behind. Keep it up! If you do, we'll hopefully see more visitors checking out our blog (by looking at the Cluster Map). I'm sure that Mr. Isfeld and Mr. Harbeck are also very proud of you all.

Keep up all the great work!

Scribe Post for Jan. 14, 2009

Today, I will show you how to publish a blog on Blogger.

The first thing you must do, is put the title.
The title must be "Scribe Post for", then the date you are doing it.
Next, you must put labels. The labels should be lowercase and separated with commas like this :
jamieq36, scribepost
^ You have to put your user name, then type scribepost.

ADDING IMAGES :

To add any images, you have to look for one first. Then save it to somewhere you can find it. After you've saved the image, you have to click on the blue button, next to the 'ABC' button, and click browse. It will bring you to a window filled with files. Look for where you saved the picture, then click on it, then click open. After all for that, click upload photo, then you picture will pop up in the 'compose' box.

ADDING LINKS :

To add a link, first, you have to copy the address in the address bar. Highlight the word that you chose to become the link. Click on the green button, right beside the colourful button, then paste the address. Then click 'OK'.

ADDING VIDEOS :

First of all, you want to know where your video is. Let's say... YouTube. Go to your video, then copy the "embed" (embedded code). After, click on the button that says 'Edit Html'. Scroll to the very bottom, then paste the embedded code onto the text. When you pasted it, click on the 'Compose' button to get back.

EDITING TEXT :

To colour your font, you have to highlight the text you want to colour, then click on the colourful button. NEVER use yellow, or any light colours if you want to change the colour. As you can see, it is hard to see. That's why you don't use it. It's better to choose a colour that is easy to see, or that stands out. If you want to change the size of your text, highlight the text first, then click on the button with two T's. Then click on the size that you desire. If you want to make the text stand out more, highlight the text, then either click on the 'b' (which stands for bold), or 'i' (which stands for italic).

SPELLCHECK :

If you want to check your spelling, all you have to do is highlight the word, then click on the 'ABC' button. It will also highlight all of the words they think you have misspelled. Once your done checking all your spelling, click on 'Done spellchecking'.

SAVE :

When your done you have to click 'SAVE NOW' just in case something happens. If your not done yet, and something happens to your computer, like, it freezes or it shuts down, there is always an auto save in case that happens. You can see what time it auto saved beside the 'SAVE NOW' button.

WHEN YOU'RE DONE :

Once you're done, at the bottom put :
I choose (whoever you want) for the next scribe.
Thank you for checking out my scribe, and please leave a comment.

COMMENTS :

When you just finished look at someone else's scribe, you MUST leave a comment. A useful comment. Not just a 2 word comment. You have to tell them what they missed, or what they did wrong.

LOOK ON BLOGGER EVERYDAY!
^ Always remember!

I choose Danielle for the next scribe.
Thank you for checking out my scribe, and please leave a comment.
